The Los Angeles Lakers are clearly a team that needs to make some changes to the roster, as they are currently a poor team that is out of a play-in tournament position. They could however still make a push when Anthony Davis comes back, as he and LeBron James are both playing at a high level.

The Chicago Bulls are a team that could potentially blow up their roster, and stars Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan have both been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. On the recent episode of the Fadeaway World podcast, Lee Tran and Divij Kulkarni discuss which of the two stars the Los Angeles Lakers should trade for. (14:00)

Lee Tran: There are a lot of Lakers rumors out there right now… some prominent candidates right now are Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan… The Chicago Bulls might blow it up. Getting either would definitely would help them, especially while AD is out… LeBron needs a guy who scores with him… If you had to pick between Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, who would you pick.

Divij Kulkarni: It would be a no-brainer. I would be going for DeMar DeRozan any day of the week. As good as Zach LaVine is, there are questions about him in terms of his consistency that DeMar DeRozan simply doesn’t have. I think in terms of shot creation for themselves, DeMar DeRozan is definitely a step above where Zach LaVine is at… As a pure shot creator I think the Lakers could use him a little more than they can use someone like Zach LaVine.

Lee Tran: I don’t disagree with your point about shot creation… But to me, I always say Zach LaVine can play off the ball. DeMar can’t. That is important when you’re playing next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. You have to be able to play without the ball catch and shoot, cut… Zach LaVine has been good at doing that, especially because he adapted to DeMar DeRozan during their time in Chicago. With Zach LaVine though, there’s definitely an injury history which is also a concern.

It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles Lakers will in fact trade for Zach LaVine or DeMar DeRozan in the future. These two players would be among the best trade options for them, and there’s definitely a chance they could acquire them ahead of this year’s deadline.
