A week ago, the Memphis Grizzlies were at the top of the Western Conference and looked like a true contender for the first time since the Marc Gasol era. With Ja Morant leading the way, Memphis has earned a lot of big wins this season that has them at the center of the basketball world.

Recently, however, the Grizzlies have taken a bit of a step back. Despite the return of Desmond Bane, and some bold comments from star point guard Ja Morant, they have fallen to 3rd in the standings with a 20-13 record.

After the team’s loss to the Suns on Wednesday, young forward Dillon Brooks felt compelled to call his team out for folding after talking so much trash.

I asked Dillon Brooks about how teams are responding to the Grizzlies’ talkative identity: “I feel like this season when we get talked back to, we just freeze up.”

The Grizzlies are still a team to fear in the West, but where exactly is their ceiling, and can they back up their confidence with postseason success?

Are The Memphis Grizzlies Ready To Compete For An NBA Title?

After making the Western Conference Semi-Finals last season, many picked the Grizz to come out of the West this year. On paper, they could certainly pull it off, but it won’t be easy in the deep Western Conference.

At the very least, the Grizzlies should wait to start talking until after they’ve done something noteworthy.

“Is it a rivalry? No way. Absolutely not,” Green said on the first episode of “Unfiltered with Complex Sports,” which was released Thursday. “You know what that reminds me of? That reminds me of when they were trying to make it out that the Warriors and the (LA) Clippers were a rivalry back in 2014, ’15 and ’16. That was never a rivalry. And by the way, at one point in that, we were the up-and-coming young fellas. Even then, that wasn’t a rivalry. Nobody had won anything! So, how was it a rivalry? And (the Grizzlies) haven’t won anything, so it’s impossible for that to be a rivalry. Who was a rivalry was us and the (Cleveland Cavaliers). That was a rivalry.”

Only time will tell if the Grizzlies are for real, but they don’t seem to have any doubt about it. With Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and a solid supporting cast around them, the Grizzlies believe they have enough to go all the way.

Now all that’s left to do is finish the job and prove the haters wrong once and for all.
