The NBA is going through with a bold rebrand of the way it hands out honors, by altering almost every existing individual trophy. They have been given names to honor legends of the game and have been completely redesigned.
Among the 6 new designs, the MVP award has been named the Michael Jordan award to honor the man most people consider the GOAT of the sport. What the NBA wrote about MJ while announcing the award indicates that the league agrees and thinks that MJ’s standard of greatness is unmatched.

An endless chase of greatness seems to clearly refer to a modern NBA player that has been chasing Michael Jordan for the last 2 decades in LeBron James. While LBJ has not been able to accrue the titles or individual honors MJ did, he has redefined longevity in the sport and will retire with some unmatchable totals over his 20+ year career.
Is The NBA Wrong To Place Michael Jordan On This Pedestal?
No. The answer to that is a categorical no. MJ has done more for this game than anybody else, almost single-handedly making the sport a worldwide phenomenon during his era of greatness. He redefined the sneaker market with the Jordan Brand and his initial Air Jordans.
On the court, Jordan went 6-0 in the NBA Finals and lost just one playoff series from 1991 to 1998. He won the MVP award 5 times, 1 fewer award than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Nonetheless, there is no better player that defines the spirit of being MVP than Michael Jordan. LeBron James deserves an award named after him one day, but the MVP award is fitting for MJ.
