Zion Williamson has been having a phenomenal 2022-23 NBA season. After missing the entire last season, many started to doubt whether the New Orleans Pelicans made a mistake by drafting Williamson, using the number one overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Evidently, Zion was in a dark place ahead of making a comeback this season. So far, Zion has done an amazing job of proving his doubters wrong and having phenomenal performance after performance throughout the season.

So much so that Zion Williamson is now being looked at as a prime candidate to win the regular season MVP award this season. After all, the New Orleans Pelicans have the best record in the Western Conference.

JJ Redick Apologizes For Criticizing Zion Williamson Earlier

When CJ McCollum was traded to the Pelicans, former NBA player and current NBA analyst JJ Redick called out Zion Williamson. The reason behind it was Zion being a detached teammate after not reaching out to McCollum. Redick went as far as saying that Williamson’s actions showed that he was not invested in the team.

Now a few months down the line, McCollum and Zion have become great teammates. In fact, McCollum even called out haters who disrespected Zion when he struggled due to injuries. Anyway, speaking of Redick, he recently revealed that he regrets calling out Williamson.

Via Bleacher Report:

“The first time was with Zion last year when CJ McCollum had given an interview at All-Star break, and they asked him what he and Zion had talked about. CJ said, ‘I haven’t spoken to Zion.’ Which I thought was strange — CJ had played five games with the Pelicans at that point. … As a teammate I said he kinda distances himself or whatever, which is something that I said to Zion when I was his teammate. It wasn’t like this was the first time, I was just saying it publicly. But I wish I’d handled that differently, and I probably could have just avoided it altogether if I really wanted to.”

While it’s nothing new to see analysts criticizing players for things, it is indeed rare to see them apologize. It’s good that Redick realized his mistake and apologized for unnecessarily criticizing Williamson.
