The Los Angeles Lakers may have the most NBA Championship banners hanging in the rafter, but last season they were one of the worst teams in the league. Despite having a Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, the Purple and Gold ended up missing the playoffs last season.

It was certainly a humiliating season for the iconic NBA organization. There were many things that went wrong for them, but unarguably the biggest reason behind their poor run of form was the absence of Anthony Davis over a long period of time in the regular season.

Ever since winning the 2020 NBA title, Davis has struggled to maintain his fitness. He missed a lot of games, which has obviously hindered the chances of the Lakers’ success. This season AD is finally healthy and has also revealed that the Lakers’ Big 3 is applying a new mantra for the 2022-23 NBA season.

Kevin Garnett Urges Anthony Davis To Step Up For The Lakers

While the Lakers have a decent squad on paper, they still ended up losing against the Sacramento Kings in their preseason opener. AD looked in great shape in the matchup despite the defeat, but as per the former NBA superstar Kevin Garnett, Davis needs to play like an MVP in order for the Lakers to succeed.

“I want to see Anthony Davis go for the MVP of this league. Literally, take the keys from Bron and put LA on his back. If he doesn’t have that attitude they might not even make the playoffs

When the Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship, Anthony Davis played a crucial role in the team’s success. He matched LeBron James’ level and helped the Lakers win title number 17.

As explained by Garnett, if the Lakers want to make a comeback this season, they need Davis to be in his best shape. Moreover, apart from just being healthy, the organization needs Davis to play like an MVP.
