Metta Sandiford-Artest has always been a character. Now that he’s retired, he’s regularly speaking on NBA-related matters, making big claims and predictions, sometimes earning a lot of bad comments from fans. He always boasted huge confidence during his active days, and an old video perfectly reflects how bold he could sometimes be.
Back in 2011, people were questioning Metta World Peace’s fitness, and the player was tired of that. Talking to reporters, the 2010 NBA champion sent a message to those who didn’t believe he was in shape to compete for another title.
To make things more ‘interesting’, he made a bold claim to a reporter who directly asked him if he was in shape. Metta went full Metta mode and replied as only he could.
Metta Sandiford-Artest Hilariously Shot His Shot With One Reporter
“I heard I was out of shape, too… Some guy, this one guy said I was out of shape,” he first said.
While explaining that he heard some people talking about his body, Sandiford-Artest was asked if he was in shape by a reporter, and he had an epic response to that.
“If I showed you my abs right now, you’d probably leave your husband,” Artest said.
The reporter then asked if they could see what he was talking about, but Metta wasn’t interested in that, simply ‘saying’ no to that request.
Reporter: “Can we see them now?”
Metta World Peace: “No!”
This was a hilarious interaction, and the reporters talking to the player confirmed that. 11 years after that moment, people keep bringing this video up to remember how funny Metta Sandiford-Artest is. During that season, the Los Angeles Lakers failed to make another run at the championship. Artest would play another season for them before getting waived by the Purple and Gold.
He’s still making fun comments every now and then, but when he was a player, he was a living meme.
