There normally aren’t too many concerns heading into the offseason for a team that just won a championship. They are usually basking in the glory of having reached the top of the mountain, and while the Golden State Warriors are relishing their return to the top, there are dark clouds looming on the horizon.

Those dark clouds, of course, are extensions for Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole. The Warriors are suffering from their success in a way, as they just have so much talent on their roster that they just cannot afford to keep everybody. It is a position that teams like the Sacramento Kings would love to find themselves in at some point, but it is a headache nonetheless for the Warriors.

Warriors Insider Reveals The Team Hasn’t Had Serious Talks About Extensions

GM Bob Myers recently stated that they aren’t thinking about offloading Draymond Green, and the Warriors are looking for a way to keep all their big names. Despite all that chatter, there hasn’t been much said about negotiations between the Warriors and the trio, and it turns out that is because they haven’t had any serious talks yet. Kendra Andrews was on NBA Today on ESPN recently, where she gave an update on the situation

“Those conversations really haven’t started in earnest yet. When it comes to the rookie contract extensions, non-max contracts, those conversations don’t pick up till closer to that October 17th deadline so as we get closer to that as we move into October then those conversations with Jordan Poole will pick up. With the Warriors’ salary, with the landscape of their money, they’re not rushing into any of these conversations. So, when you look at Andrew Wiggins, they have all season to figure out that extension, and Draymond Green, that’s a couple years away. So that is definitely lower on their list of priorities right now.”

So it seems like we’ll have to wait till about the second week of October to get some concrete news on Poole, who will become a restricted free agent if the two sides can’t agree to a deal by October 17th. Wiggins, meanwhile, is unlikely to get an extension before the season starts as there isn’t an early deadline in his case, but if he has a strong start to the season, then that price tag will only go up even further.

While Draymond’s extension is lower on their list of priorities, they will have to factor that in when they give out these extensions to the other two, as Dray reportedly wants a max extension. It would be an incredible feat if Golden State manages to keep all of them, but it just doesn’t seem likely at this point.
