The 2022 EuroBasket is turning out to be an incredibly exciting tournament. This may be the first exposure to European basketball for many NBA fans, and it has delivered so far. Luka Doncic’s incredible 47-point performance was all everyone could talk about yesterday, but there were other games played at that time.

One of the games that preceded Slovenia’s anticipated clash against the French national team led by Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier was one between Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Both teams are in the same EuroBasket group as Slovenia and France, having a tough battle against each other.

The Lithuanians walked out with an 87-70 win, salvaging their EuroBasket campaign after opening their group with 3 consecutive losses. There was a funny moment in the game when former NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis of Lithuania was blocked by a Bosnian player who started taunting him, just for Sabonis’ teammate to dunk all over the guy that just made a great defensive play.

Can Lithuania Bring A Fight To The Favorites?

Lithuania’s EuroBasket campaign has a nightmarish start as they lost 3 consecutive games to Slovenia, Germany, and France. However, their 2 wins over Hungary and Bosnia allowed them to sneak into the final qualifying spot from the group as they make it on to the round of 16 to face Spain in a win-or-go-home matchup.

Lithuania is led by talented NBA big-men Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas. The wins over Hungary and Bosnia were crucial for Lithuania as the team has never been eliminated this early in the tournament.

They haven’t looked great but are a proud basketball nation with a lot of heritage. They have more top-end talent than the current Spanish team and will be hoping to get past them and go further in the competition. However, given their opening 3 games, it is tough to imagine that Lithuania can compete against the very best teams in this year’s tournament.
