The NBA media has become a constant for debates. Be it comparing two teams and their championship chances or comparing superstars, debates in the NBA are a constant. Perhaps the only constant in these debates, though, is the debate to determine the Greatest of All Time.

The likes of LeBron James and Michael Jordan are often compared to one another in the GOAT debate. From their accolades to their skills or their weaknesses, everything is under the microscope in these debates.

Tracy McGrady Provides Different Perspective On GOAT Debate

While fans and critics often are particular about all the statistics and the accolades the likes of MJ and LeBron have to determine who the GOAT is, former All-Star Tracy McGrady claims to have a different perspective on the never-ending debate.

In a recent appearance on a podcast, McGrady claimed that the GOAT debate doesn’t determine who would be the best player one-on-one.

Who would be the best 1v1 player in the WORLD? 🤔

“We talk about who is the GOAT of basketball. It’s MJ, LeBron, and I always have to throw in Kobe in there. But that is in a five-on-five setting. So if you say in today’s game who is the best player in today’s game, I don’t know who you would say, but I bet he probably wouldn’t be the best one on one player. I want to find out who’s the best one-on-one player in the world.”

This is certainly a different take on the GOAT debate. While stats and accolades often are the primary factors in these debates, people often forget to determine how the two would have fared one-on-one.

But this shouldn’t be a surprising statement from McGrady. Given that the former Orlando Magic star has his 1-on-1 tournament known as the OBL. While determining who would be the best one-on-one player would be an interesting way to look at things, this would also mean that many other talented iso-players like Allen Iverson would emerge in the GOAT debate. Who do you think is the best player one-on-one player in NBA history?
