Last season when the Miami Heat acquired Kyle Lowry in free agency, many thought that the Heat finally became a formidable contender in the NBA. Given their playmaking woes, Lowry seemed like the perfect fit for the team.
After many teams failed to land the veteran on the 2021 deadline day, the Heat didn’t wait for a second to make the move for Lowry in the offseason. While the former champion seemed like the perfect player for the team, he didn’t make much impact on the team’s success last season. Many blamed Lowry’s bulky physique for the same and claimed that he had gained weight during his time in Miami.
Former Heat Guard Tim Hardaway Sr. Claims Kyle Lowry Is Not Fat
While many might claim that Lowry has gained weight and become fat, former Heat guard and legend Tim Hardaway thinks otherwise.
In a recent conversation with Heat insider Ira Winderman, Hardaway explained why he thinks the claims of Kyle Lowry being fat are outlandish.
“It’s a bunch of bs… Kyle Lowry is not fat. He’s not fat and overweight. He wears these football pads under him to make him look like he’s bigger. He’s way slimmer than what you think he is. I’ve been telling folks that for the longest. And everybody’s like, ‘No, he’s overweight.’ No, the guy is not overweight. It’s that he needs to stay healthy to stay in shape.”
Hardaway certainly raises a fair point. Given that Lowry did suffer from multiple nagging injuries throughout the season, he was not in the best of shape throughout the season. This meant that the Heat had to rely on their talisman, Jimmy Butler, yet again for multiple parts of the season.
But the guard is looking in the best of shapes right now. Putting in the work this offseason, Lowry looks all set to contribute to the Heat. If he can take some of the playmaking burdens away from Butler, the Heat will become a scarier team in the East. Can the Miami Heat challenge for the title for the upcoming season?
