The Utah Jazz are clearly in a rebuilding state as of right now. They have already moved Rudy Gobert earlier this summer, and have also moved Patrick Beverley to the Los Angeles Lakers recently.
The best player on the Utah Jazz currently is Donovan Mitchell, and he has frequently been linked with an exit from the franchise as well. Brian Windhorst has recently revealed that the Utah Jazz are trying to move him prior to the start of training camp. (8:15):
“The Jazz are beginning their business…MacMahon, you said I believe last week that you thought that the Jazz would make a Donovan Mitchell trade before the [regular season] opener. And it sounds to me in talking to people around the league that the Jazz want to try to go even sooner than that, that they want to go before training camp.”
“It does sound as I talk to folks in the league that the Jazz are trying to apply the gas here, trying to juice the offer, especially juice the offer from the New York Knicks.”
Donovan Mitchell has frequently been linked with the New York Knicks in recent memory, with a recent report suggesting that they are still the strongest candidates to land him. There’s no doubt that the New York Knicks need a star to become the face of their franchise, and perhaps Donovan Mitchell can fill that role if he were to get traded there. However, based on Windhorst’s reporting, we can assume that they want more from the Knicks than is currently being offered.
Of course, the Utah Jazz have no obligation to move Donovan Mitchell to the New York Knicks. However, it is clear that the Knicks have the most assets to give up in a trade for Mitchell, and we’ll see if the two sides can come to an agreement in the future.
