The Boston Celtics finally made it to the NBA Finals last season with their core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart. The franchise has invested years in its growth, and it finally seems like they are getting a return on those investments.
But due to the fact that the teams’ superstars are still young, they failed to play well in the NBA Finals. They simply succumbed to the pressure of facing the phenomenal Golden State Warriors team.
All things considered, it was still a successful season for the Celtics. If they wait for a couple of years, they might win an NBA Championship. But as per recent reports, it seems like the Celtics want to create a roster that will help them in winning a ring right now.
As a result, they have engaged in trade talks with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire Kevin Durant. KD might turn 34 years old soon, but he is still an amazing player and can help the Celtics finally win an NBA title since 2008.
Speaking of the potential trade, former Celtics star Antoine Walker labeled this move as simply terrible. He believes the Celtics have invested so much time in building a great roster, and they’d be throwing it all away if they trade for KD.
"The Celtics don't need Kevin Durant. People will say, 'This is KD, arguably a Top 3 player in the league!' You don't tear up what you've worked so hard to build."

“I am so disappointed this morning because I think this is a terrible decision. This will be a terrible decision to go in, and I know people will be like, ‘This is Kevin Durant. This is arguably a top three player in the league! Of course, you make a trade for that.’ You don’t tear up what you’ve worked so hard to build.
We are talking about a team that is young. I know everybody hates to talk about age, but … Jaylen Brown is 25, Tatum is 24, Smart’s 28, Robert Williams is 24. Your core is young. You just lost in the sixth game of the finals. Everything is in place, and I was just giving them praise for having the best summer, to me, out of every team in the league.”
The Celtics’ superstar duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have just started to enter the primes of their respective careers.
Adding KD to the team might help them in achieving their short-term goal, but when we take a look at the bigger picture, this trade will do them more harm than good. At the end of the day, it’s the front office’s decision, and as things stand right now, the Celtics are all-in for trying to get Kevin Durant.
