Hawks GM Opens Up On Fit Between Trae Young And Dejounte Murray: “That’s Something We Didn’t Have Last Year. So, Coach Nate McMillan And His Staff Are Going To Be Creative To Make That Work.”

The Atlanta Hawks made a win-now trade for Dejounte Murray this offseason, and it is clear that they want to build around Trae Young and give him the best possible chance of winning a championship.

However, there has been some concern about a potential fit between Dejounte Murray and Trae Young, as both guards are used to being the center of the offense. Hawks GM Landry Fields has recently spoken about that issue. He pointed out that the two players’ roles “will be a lot different” next season, and Fields also mentioned that Nate McMillan would have to “be creative” to make that work. Mark Medina of NBA.com relayed the news.

That’s something we didn’t have last year. So, coach Nate [McMillan] and his staff are going to be creative to make that work. We bet on the character makeup of Trae and Dejounte. Both of those guys want to win, and will do what it takes to win. They need that because their roles will be a lot different than they were last year, from both respective teams. As long as they’re able to do what it takes, Coach [McMillan] then comes in and is able to get creative with how they’ll operate. From a front-office standpoint, we’ll determine if we need to inject more here, here or here. Hopefully, all three of those are working at the same time.

There could definitely be some growing pains for the Hawks as their stars get used to playing on the same team. With that being said, Trae Young has previously stated that Dejounte Murray could take the Hawks to the next level as a team, and there’s no doubt that both players will do their best to make things work.

Hopefully, we see the Atlanta Hawks find some degree of success in the coming years. Trae Young has already managed to take them to the Eastern Conference Finals, and perhaps we’ll see him win a championship at some point in the future.
