There is no doubt that well-designed jerseys are generally appealing to fans. They are appealing to the eye, and the visual aspect of basketball is extremely important from a commercial standpoint.
There has been a lot of talk in recent memory about the “nickname jerseys” that were once present in the NBA. There have been a lot of cool nicknames in the league in the past, with “Air Jordan” and “Black Mamba” being some examples. There is definitely some appeal to a player having his nickname instead of his last name on his jerseys.
A player that has recently voiced his support for nickname jerseys is Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies. He responded to a post from the Twitter page Legion Hoops that was asking fans about the matter, and it is clear that he’s a fan of bringing the nickname jerseys back.

It remains to be seen if the NBA will end up bringing those nickname jerseys back. Obviously, they would be a niche item as a lot of fans would likely prefer to get a regular jersey, but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be people who want them.
Ja Morant has no commonly-used nickname right now, but perhaps that could change in the future as he spends more time in the league. Fans often come up with cool nicknames for players who shine in big moments, and there’s no doubt that Ja Morant does exactly that.
As of now, Ja Morant’s focus will be on trying to win a championship with the Memphis Grizzlies. They were the No. 2 seed under his leadership this year, and they will likely only get better when young players such as Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. develop. Hopefully, we see the Grizzlies get to the Finals during Ja Morant’s tenure, and they will likely have a good chance of doing so next season.
