Jalen Brunson was recently signed by the New York Knicks, and he will fill their point guard hole quite nicely. Brunson has a bit of a breakout playoff run with the Dallas Mavericks this year, averaging 21.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 3.7 APG with the team.

Even though he is on the New York Knicks currently, it seems as though Jalen Brunson’s original plan was to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. When speaking to JJ Redick recently, Jalen Brunson revealed that he wanted to stay with the Mavericks, but “the business came knocking on the door”. The New York Knicks offered Brunson a very lucrative contract, close to $110 million over four years. It is safe to say that Jalen Brunson made the right business choice.

“I loved my time in Dallas. I wanted to be in Dallas. I thought I was going to be in Dallas for a long time. I went to them before they officially offered it to me, and by the end, it was kind of too late. The business came knocking on the door. I had to do my due diligence and look, and see what was out there.”

Hopefully, we see Jalen Brunson thrive with the New York Knicks. He will be a fantastic floor general for the team and will be joining a young core featuring RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Mitchell Robinson. The New York Knicks could potentially be a competitive team next season, and perhaps we will even see them make the playoffs.

There’s a possibility that the New York Knicks are not done making moves, and they have notably been linked with a trade for Donovan Mitchell. We’ll see if the front office makes any more additions before the start of the season, but with Jalen Brunson joining the team, they are already in a solid position.
