Almost a month into free agency, Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets find themselves at an impasse. After turning in his trade request this summer, he forced Brooklyn into talks with teams around the league, namely Miami and Phoenix, who were on his list of preferred destinations.

But even after weeks of negotiations, the Nets are having trouble finding a trade partner, and Brian Windhorst may know why. Speaking on NBA Today, he dropped the latest news surrounding the 2x Finals MVP.

“[Kevin] Durant’s price is so high that nobody can afford to pay it… Right now, everybody waiting for the price to get lower. I’m not hearing anything changing as far as the demand phase of this process.”

Durant, 33, is objectively one of the best players in basketball. Last season, he averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game on 51.8% shooting.

Obviously, every team in the league would love to have Durant — and especially the Miami Heat, who have long been favored to land the Nets forward.

“I try not to get too into it,” Heat player Max Strus said. “Obviously you see it, and people ask you about it. But I’ll wait until it happens. If something happens, it happens. But, yeah, how can you not want a guy like Kevin Durant? He’s a once-in-a-generation type player and great player in the game and one of the best of all time. I’m excited to see what happens and I hope the best for him and the best for our team, that’s all that really matters.”

Unfortunately, the price is just too high right now and teams are waiting for the Nets to lower their ask before they strike a deal.

What that means for Durant going forward is uncertain, but it’s clear that he’s not going anywhere with the market as it is.
