The Brooklyn Nets certainly hoped to win an NBA Championship when they signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving three seasons ago. But the last three seasons haven’t been that great for the franchise.
Coming to the present, the Nets haven’t won a ring in the last three seasons. In fact, they didn’t even make it to the NBA Finals even once. It is understandable that KD has requested a trade from the Nets.
Initially, Durant had requested that the Nets trade him to either the Phoenix Suns or the Miami Heat. But considering both the franchises do not possess the assets that the Nets want in return, it could mean that Durant could be heading elsewhere.
Durant’s former team and the 2022 NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, are apparently interested in trading for the 2x NBA champion. While most believe that this is nothing but a rumor, if KD indeed gets traded to the Warriors, it would shake the league once again.
Most importantly, the Dubs also have the assets to realistically trade for Durant. Additionally, if he joins the Warriors this time around, NBA analyst Zach Lowe believes KD could say that he had no control over that trade. After all, he still has four years left on his contract and doesn’t have much leverage over the Nets.

“Of course they’re interested. It’s Kevin Durant. And to Brian’s point about the four year contract, teams are looking at this as, he’s 34 years old. He’s had a couple of major injuries in his career. The first two years we’re confident in getting peak Kevin Durant. We got to be able to win the title in those first two years, have a good shot at it. The next two we’ll see how it ages. Durant can say this is a decision that was out of my hands, they just came and got me, let’s go hoop”
As Lowe mentioned, if a player of KD’s caliber is available on the market, there is no team in the NBA that wouldn’t be interested in signing him.
But the way that Durant left last time around, it took the Warriors two seasons to get back on their feet. So there could be some bad blood between the two sides. If that isn’t true then the Nets can accept this trade and it will be a win-win situation for both sides.
