The future is uncertain in Brooklyn following Kevin Durant’s explosive trade request this month. But with the Nets fielding offers, and holding for the best possible package, there is a sense that this saga could drag on for weeks or even months.
If you ask most fans and experts, they will tell you that nothing is happening before Durant gets dealt and that he will be the first domino to fall for the Nets.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski gave a different report on Thursday when he revealed that Kyrie Irving might end up moving before his co-star after all.
Here is what he said:
“It is possible, and obviously you don’t have as wide of a swath of teams, not nearly as many conversations going on for Kyrie Irving as you do for Kevin Durant. The Nets have been engaged with the Lakers here in the last week — and if they got to a place where a deal did make sense, then Brooklyn’s got to measure the timing of it and how it would impact where they think they are with Kevin Durant. So the possibility that they could trade Kyrie Irving before Kevin Durant, it exists. There’s also a possibility they don’t trade Kyrie Irving and they don’t find a deal as quickly as everyone might expect for Kevin Durant.”

The market is much more narrow for Irving than it is for Durant. Unlike his co-star, Kyrie has a reputation for being unreliable and that reputation has a lot of teams passing on the opportunity to trade for him.
But the Lakers have made it known that they desperately want Kyrie, and it seems only a matter of time before they push the Nets to finalize a deal. So no matter where Kevin Durant goes this summer, Kyrie Irving will not play another game for the Brooklyn Nets.
