NBA Rumors: Spurs Could Help Lakers Land Kyrie Irving By Trading For Russell Westbrook And Sending Draft Picks To Nets

The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked with a move for Kyrie Irving in recent weeks, with many fans showing their desire to see a reunion between Irving and LeBron James after three seasons together in Cleveland. That possibility was apparently killed when Irving opted-in to his $37 million player option for next season, but things are different now.

After Kevin Durant’s shocking trade request, both he and Kyrie are apparently on the trade block, and the point guard has been linked with the Lakers more than ever. Even though Shams Charania reported that there’s no traction between Kyrie and the Lakers, others reports suggest the opposite.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers could receive help from an unexpected team that could take away Russell Westbrook’s hefty contract while opening a spot for Kyrie.

The Spurs could get involved with the Nets and Lakers talks, absorbing Westbrook into their cap space, and sending over assets to Brooklyn, landing Kyrie Irving in LA.

This could be a big boost for the Lakers’ hopes to land Irving and create another Big 3 at Crypto.com Arena. It’s not a secret that the Westbrook experiment didn’t work last season, and even though the team has shown their desire to make it work, nothing really suggests that Darvin Ham will be able to turn things around regarding his star trio.

On the other hand, Kyrie has already played and found success with LeBron, which makes things easier for him and his potential new team. It remains to be seen if San Antonio pulls the trigger for this move, knowing that they are parting ways with all the players that could make them a competitive squad in the Western Conference. Adding Westbrook to the roster could be counter-productive, but we have to sit and wait for what’s next for all the three teams involved in this rumor.
