NBA Insider Says Timberwolves Could Trade D’Angelo Russell On Draft Night Or In The First Week Of July

D’Angelo Russell has been the starting point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season, and there’s no doubt that he’s a creative offensive player that is adept at both scoring and playmaking. He averaged a solid 18.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG, and 7.1 APG during the regular season, but ended up struggling in the Wolves’ series against the Grizzlies.

Timberwolves insider Dane Moore has recently revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves trading D’Angelo Russell “is now even more likely”, and that a deal could happen as soon as draft night.

I've been saying for the past month that I've heard it is over a 50% chance that D'Angelo Russell is traded this offseason.

Conversations with a few non-Timberwolves sources today suggest a Russell trade is now even more likely — either tonight or the first week of July.

I’ve been saying for the past month that I’ve heard it is over a 50% chance that D’Angelo Russell is traded this offseason.

Conversations with a few non-Timberwolves sources today suggest a Russell trade is now even more likely — either tonight or the first week of July.

It is easy to see why the Minnesota Timberwolves would trade away D’Angelo Russell. He was poor in the postseason, and the team is trying to take the next step and build a contender around Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns. Perhaps moving D’Angelo Russell for a better option at the point guard slot can help with that. The Minnesota Timberwolves have also been linked with center options such as Clint Capela though, so we’ll see what move the team decides to enact to get better.

Hopefully, we see the Minnesota Timberwolves become a force in the Western Conference sooner rather than later. They have two elite stars and some solid role players. They also took the No. 3 seeded Memphis Grizzlies to 6 games in the postseason, showing that they can be a dangerous team come playoff time. With a few additions, they could be a top-tier playoff team. Perhaps we’ll see the first of those additions come from a D’Angelo Russell trade, but keeping the point guard wouldn’t be a bad option either. The Minnesota Timberwolves have a lot of options ahead of draft night, which is generally a good place to be at.
