Draymond Green Explains How He And Stephen Curry Run The Warriors: “We Trust What The Coaches Say, They Trust What We See. It’s A Partnership…”

In Golden State, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry are in complete control. As franchise lifers and veteran All-Stars, the pair have acquired quite a bit of power within the organization.

In a recent chat with The Athletic, Draymond Green detailed the level of say he has in the decision-making process:

“We’re at the point now that Steph’s 13 (seasons) in, I’m 10 in,” Draymond said in an interview late Sunday night. “We’ve all been together eight years (with Kerr). We trust what the coaches say, they trust what we see. It’s a partnership. They do obviously 99.8 percent of the game plan. Then, if we have input, they take our input. We like to put our brains together, give them thoughts on what we’re feeling on the court, which sometimes can be a little different than what they’re seeing. And then try to make it all work together.”

For instance: Going into this series, Kerr figured that rookie Moses Moody, who hadn’t played a meaningful minute in the previous two series, could be a nice fit for some more minutes against Dallas. So he told Moody. And then …

“I talked to Draymond after that and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I totally agree,’” Kerr recalled. “So I think we’re on the same page most of the time, anyway, because we’ve been together for so long and we know what works and what’s necessary. It wasn’t like we had this moment where Draymond and I put our heads together and said, ‘What do we do?’ It was more like we both recognized beforehand, before we talked to one another, that Moses made sense for this series.”

Whatever kind of system the Warriors are following, it’s clearly working. After a few years of re-tooling and re-building, the team is back on top of the basketball world and just a few wins away from winning another title.

For their part, Steph and Draymond are leading both on and off the court and have come together to chip in on strategies and big-time roster moves. It was smart for the team to lean in on their most accomplished and experienced stars in more ways than one.
