Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is one of the most eccentric personalities in the game today. During his latest “Believe That” tour of China with Adidas, the guard put this on full display, especially during his meeting with NBA legend Yao Ming.

Edwards provided comic relief for NBA fans across the world the moment he set foot in China, as he greeted fans by saying, “Ni hao, what’s hannin’!”

To follow this up, the Wolves’ star posed for a picture with the 7’6″ legend and hilariously claimed that he would dunk on Yao Ming. He tweeted: “I wud dunk on Yao shout out to one of da greats.”

Edwards is known for being an extremely explosive athlete. Combined with his aggressive approach towards finishing at the rim, even at 6’4″, the 24-year-old is capable of producing some thunderous dunks.

But his statement about Ming drew humorous responses from fans who came across this post on social media. Here are some of the reactions from fans on X.

“If Nate Robinson can dunk on Yao, why can’t Ant?” asked one fan.

“You can’t hate on this guy cause he’s just too authentic lol. He’ll act the same in front of a homeless person as he would the President,” stated another.

“Edwards is becoming one of the NBA’s most marketable and beloved personalities,” said one fan, acknowledging Edwards’ claim to being the face of the league.

“Gotta love his attitude while still giving respect to the greats,” added another.

“The thing is, he COULD and WOULD do it,” suggested one fan, pointing to Edwards’ innate athleticism and ability.

“Ant would put Yao on a poster so quick, let’s be honest,” agreed another.

One user joked, “Ant needed a ladder just to dap him up.”

Another added, “He is dead a** serious.”

Another fan was shocked after seeing the quote and said, “This isn’t Centel?!”

Meanwhile, another simply suggested, “That’s how you know he runs his own socials.”

Challenging a 7’6″ athlete at the rim would certainly be a questionable decision for most basketball players. However, stars such as Anthony Edwards and Ja Morant in today’s era of players appear to be cut from a different cloth.

Edwards is currently viewed as one of the most exciting young stars in the league. At 24 years old, he has taken huge strides in his career to become the face of the Wolves franchise. While embracing his role as the cornerstone, he has also taken on the role of the team’s leader.

The upcoming season will be a pivotal one for Edwards. With two consecutive losses in the Western Conference Finals, the guard will aim to lead his team past this hurdle to move on to the next stage. But with the West becoming significantly tougher this offseason, Edwards will be required to increase his productivity on the floor.
