Like every video game, NBA 2K has a balance within the game that distinguishes the best players from the worst players. While the overalls are the first inclination of what players are useful, over time, the community finds gems across the league that may have a deceptive overall but can play at the level of a star.

In NBA 2K22, Derrick Jones Jr. is one of those low overall players that are extremely fun to play with. He will reliably make shots while having one of the best dunk ratings in the game. Every year has a player like that who is incredibly fun to use and will make your friends think you are cheating with the way you are making them play.

Twitter user @oldnbatweetz shared a photo of NBA 2K legend Gerald Green with an in-game stat line of 100 points on 0 missed shots, including 28 made threes. While obviously the score can be skewed through sliders, it doesn’t take away from the fact that Gerald Green is an all-time GOAT 2K player.

However, this did raise a debate in the replies where fans were talking about their favorite low-overall players to use over the course of all the old 2K games. Many advocated for Zach LaVine prior to his real-life growth into an All-Star. Shout-outs were also given to the likes of Jeremy Lamb, Rudy Gay, Daequan Cook, Chase Budinger, Anthony Bennett, and many others.

If im going by a list I got

1. 2K14 Gerald Green
2. 2K13 Rudy Gay
3. 2K13 JR Smith
4. 2K15 Zach LaVine
5. 2K15 Terrence Ross

2K Sports cannot actually recreate every single player and how they play in real life in the game, so it is fun to see certain players like this be as fun to use. They usually have to have base levels of strong shooting or athletic stats for them to be effective like how the aforementioned players were.

Modern 2Ks are getting a lot better at equally representing player values to their overalls, but as long as these games are made, there will always be some low-overall gems someone can pick up for their rags to riches MyLeague simulation.
