It seems as though every trade deadline, we see some significant trades. Sometimes, those trades are extremely shocking for fans and analysts alike. There’s no doubt that one of the trades from earlier today surprised a lot of fans.

Earlier today, the Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers agreed on a trade that sent Domantas Sabonis to the Kings, and Tyrese Haliburton to the Pacers. Originally, it was thought that De’Aaron Fox was the guard that was in trade talks for Domantas Sabonis, but obviously, the Kings elected to send out Tyrese Haliburton instead.

The Pacers are trading Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb and Justin Holiday to Sacramento for Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson, sources tell ESPN.

There is no doubt that this trade was surprising for a lot of people, including Sacramento Kings fans themselves. Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that everyone in the league was “stunned” including Tyrese Haliburton himself.

Tyrese Haliburton was stunned… the league is stunned at this trade, and the fact that he’s even available. I think there were a lot of teams that thought “If we knew we could have gotten Tyrese Haliburton, we would have been really knocking at the door in Sacramento”.

This is a player who everyone had thought, including Tyrese Haliburton, that he’d be the cornerstone for their future.

There is no doubt that Tyrese Haliburton is a good young player. He is currently averaging 14.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 7.4 APG while shooting 41.3% from beyond the arc. There’s no doubt that giving him up is tough, even if it is for an All-Star like Domantas Sabonis.

We’ll see how this trade works out for both teams in the future. Domantas Sabonis is definitely a player who can help the Sacramento Kings get better, but the question will always be about whether that was worth giving up a very promising young point guard in Tyrese Haliburton.
