NBA Rumors: Knicks Talked To Kings About Trading For Harrison Barnes

Harrison Barnes is a good forward who contributes on both ends of the floor. He can successfully guard most players who play SF and PF, and he also has a versatile game on offense. Currently, Harrison Barnes is putting up 16.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 2.5 APG for the Sacramento Kings.

It seems as though Harrison Barnes’ two-way play has resulted in some trade interest towards him from other teams. Marc Berman of the New York Post has recently revealed that the New York Knicks wanted to trade for Harrison Barnes prior to the recent announcement of the Tyrese Haliburton-Domantas Sabonis trade. There is definitely still an opportunity for the Knicks to trade for Barnes if they choose to do so ahead of the trade deadline.

However, the Knicks have also asked the Kings about the availability of veteran combo forward Harrison Barnes.

Multiple sources said, before the Haliburton trade, the Kings would be amenable to trading the 29-year-old Barnes, who played for Golden State’s superpower teams.

Barnes spent his first four seasons in the league with Golden State, signed with Dallas as a free agent in 2016 and was traded to Sacramento in 2019.

Barnes is a 6-foot-8 combo forward similar in size to Cam Reddish, whom the Knicks recently acquired. The Knicks believe they need a 3/4 type player for the roster, which is why they traded for Reddish.

The New York Knicks have struggled this season, and are currently 24-30 and 12th in the Eastern Conference. There is no doubt they need some help if they want to make it to the play-in tournament. Harrison Barnes would help space the floor around Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, and he could definitely be an impactful player for their team.

Hopefully, we see the New York Knicks be able to turn it around and perhaps make it to the play-in tournament. However, the team has a promising young core featuring players like RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, and even if they don’t make the play-in/playoffs, this can still be viewed as a good developmental year for the team.
