Comedian George Lopez shared a hilarious Michael Jordan story when he appeared on the latest episode of Byron Scott’s Fast Break podcast. Lopez and his friends were once invited to Jordan’s golf course, The Grove XXIII, in Hobe Sound, Florida, and one of them named Brian made the mistake of wearing Pumas that day.

“I had never met Michael Jordan and he has a golf course over there, Grove XXIII,” Lopez said. “So we get invited to go play over there from Jeffrey and this guy Jay. I’ve never met him so I don’t know if he’s going to be there.

“So, you go there and there’s this car that’s about this high off the ground and it’s all black and long… You go, ‘Man, he’s here.’ You go in the locker room and he is there,” Lopez stated. “Put some things on, we talk to him… I don’t think anybody realizes the depth of that voice.

“So this guy Brian and I, he was on the road with me,” Lopez continued. “Afterwards, we’re in there. There’s probably like 20 guys and MJ is right there. We’re drinking, laughing. He gets up and he goes, ‘Hey Georgie, come back anything, man. My place is your place.’

“And then he looks at Brian and he looks at his shoes,” Lopez added. “Motherf****r’s wearing Pumas and Michael Jordan goes, ‘You know, we sell Nikes in the Pro Shop. I know those s***s are hurting your feet, we got Jordans in the Pro Shop.’

“And those dudes were f***ing rolling,” Lopez said. “Because I said, it wasn’t a representative of the Jordan brand, it wasn’t Phil Knight, it was the motherf***ing Jumpman himself. Looked at his shoes and all casual on the way out, ‘You know, we sell Nikes in the Pro Shop.’ And busted his a** out.”

That was a rookie mistake. You’d imagine Brian isn’t really into basketball, as every fan knows you should only wear Nike or Jordan shoes when you’re around Jordan. Still, the Chicago Bulls icon’s reaction here was mild compared to what he has done in the past.

Michael Jordan Once Shredded His Friend’s Puma Products With A Knife

Jordan signed with Nike back in Oct. 1984 and has been fiercely loyal to the brand ever since. So much so, that Jordan once took a knife and shredded all Puma products from a friend’s closet.

“In the late ’80s, Jordan looked in Whitfield’s closet and saw that half of it was filled with Nike and the other half filled with Puma. Jordan bundled the Puma gear in his arms, tossing it onto the living room floor.”

“He took a knife from the kitchen and cut it to shreds. Call Howard White, his contact at Nike, he told Fred, and tell him to replace it all.”

Puma isn’t the only rival brand that Jordan wants out of his eyeline. He once took away New Balance shoes that an acquaintance named George Koehler had bought and gave him Nike ones.

Jordan then went a step further when former NBA player Tim Thomas came to his house. Thomas, an Adidas athlete, recounted how he was only allowed inside after changing into Nike gear.

With all this in mind, it is quite a surprise that Jordan allowed Brian to wear Pumas at his golf course. Perhaps he has indeed mellowed a little bit with age.
