Rudy Gobert is known for being a monster in the paint, his highlights are often blocked shots or vicious dunks. However, in the Utah Jazz’s win over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night, Gobert hit an incredible shot across the length of the court that wasn’t counted thanks to the buzzer going off just before.

With the first half of the game coming to an end, Bones Hyland attempted a shot that the Jazz successfully defended. The ball ended up in Rudy’s hands and he hurled it from behind his own free-throw line, unbelievably managing to bank it in. Everyone in the arena celebrated but it was clear that the center didn’t get it off before the clock expired.

NBA fans were in awe of the shot and reacted on Reddit, some calling it the greatest shot of his career and asking the rules to be broken to allow it to stand.

mengisKhan08: “Woulda been Rudy’s first career 3 smh.”

theledfarmer: “Like 0.2 seconds away from being the greatest thing to ever happen to the Utah Jazz.”

thechemistrychef: “That legit would have been one of the longest shots in NBA history.”

celsiustwo_three_two: “This is why players should heave.”

Clerithifa: “One-handed off his right foot going right, looks like a 7’2″ 260 lb Patrick Mahomes out there holy sh*t.”

Bash.86: “The rifle tower.”

arcticpoppy: “Seriously that would have decapitated someone in row 7 if it didn’t hit the backboard.”

justin.meyer: “And people are tryna tell me he can’t shoot. I bet y’all feel pretty dumb now.”

northernpace: “Rudy’s got an arm, that was a canon of a throw.”

divineinvasion: “Patriots oughta sign this guy.”

KingGoddard: “That’s for people who say Gobert can’t create his own offense.”

thommonator: “I support a bending of the rules to just go ahead and award that tbh. It’s the shot of his life.”

Byzantinova: “More range than Dame?”

Gobert put in a monster rebounding performance in this game, grabbing 19 boards while also putting up 18 points against the Nuggets. The Jazz ended up winning quite comfortably too, the final score was 125-102. It’s unlikely that Gobert will ever be able to hit a shot like this again though, so it is a real shame that it happened just after the buzzer!
