Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio suffered a season-ending injury on Tuesday, in a close game against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center. The game got even worse for the Cavs who ended up losing the game 108-104.

Rubio had played 37 minutes in the game at the time he had to make his exit through injury, putting up amazing stats. He had 27 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, leaving him just one assist away from getting a triple-double.

However, that turned out to be the least of his worries after it came out that his knee injury was actually an ACL tear and would put the 31-year-old out of commission for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

Many reached out to offer their support but notably, Golden State Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson was among them. Thompson tweeted after news of Rubio’s injury broke, tagging Rubio in his tweet.

Prayers up for @rickyrubio9. Hate to see guys get hurt. Get well soon my man.

“Prayers up for @rickyrubio9. Hate to see guys get hurt. Get well soon my man.”

It’s not surprising to see Thompson reach out at a time like this, Klay has more than his fair share of experience with massive injuries recently. The Warriors man has missed 2 full seasons after picking up a ligament injury and an Achilles tendon injury respectively.

Klay is supposed to make his return this season as he continues to recover from his ankle issue but it’s hard to tell right where that will happen. The Warriors are in no hurry to rush him back, boasting the best record in the league even without his services.

Rubio will be a much bigger miss for the Cavaliers though. His experience and ability as a veteran point guard had really taken them to the next level. This is the second big injury the franchise is dealing with this season after Collin Sexton’s season also ended prematurely.
