After one and a half seasons on the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, ending his tumultuous stint with the Purple and Gold, becoming one of the biggest disappointments this team has seen in recent times.

Lakers fans had mixed reactions to this news, but many within the organization were happy to see Russ leave. He was labeled ‘a vampire in the locker room,’ so his tenure with the 17-time NBA champion wasn’t that happy at all.

One of Russ’ former teammates, however, had very kind words for Westbrook, who is now part of a different team, although he’s been reported to be working on a buyout. Whatever happens next with Russ, Anthony Davis hopes to see Westbrook happy and doing his thing.

Anthony Davis Reflects On Russell Westbrook Trade

Following the incredibly entertaining trade deadline, Davis talked about a series of topics, including his cold ‘celebration’ when LeBron James broke the all-time scoring record, as well as Westbrook’s exit from the team. Davis explained that this is part of the business and he thinks that this was the right move for Westbrook.

“I mean, I think like he said before, it’s a business,” Davis said. “I was kind of in that situation in New Orleans. Fans and the organization, everything. I just tried to talk to him. We had a conversation today. I’m not sharing what we talked about, but I feel like he’s in a good place mentally. It can weigh on someone when you feel like the world is on your shoulders. From a playing standpoint, from a media standpoint, the fans, everything. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen with him, get bought out or what or anything, but I think he’s in a good place and he’s ready just to get back to being Russ. Leaving everything behind that he had to deal with the past couple years, whether it was the fans or the media, whatever.”

AD made it clear that Westbrook was anything but good for the Lakers, and he wants people to acknowledge that.

“I want people to know overall, Russ is a really good dude,” Davis added.

This situation didn’t start the best way for Westbrook and even though he saw some improvement coming off the bench this season, people still criticized him for his bad performances.

Now Russ is on the Jazz, but he could be joining a different team if he gets bought out. The Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and even the Los Angeles Clippers have been linked with Westbrook, and nobody knows where he’ll play next.
