  • The big man has an extensive injury history
  • Anthony Davis inked a mammoth 3-year, $186 million contract with the Lakers earlier

Anthony Davis has been putting in the work at the lab ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers NBA 2023-24 season that sees them open their campaign against the reigning champions Denver Nuggets.

Davis was pictured doing a series of workouts after his shootaround, and safe to say he looks muscled and in good shape.

Wearing a sleeveless Lakers tank top and golden shorts, the center was seen doing drills that further accentuated his toned shoulder muscles.

While the pictures surely garnered eyeballs, one of the bigger concerns for the Lakers is the extensive injury history that’s plagued him over the last few seasons.

In his four seasons with LA, Davis has played a maximum of 62 games in the 2019-20n season. Subsequently, he played 36, 40, and 56 games in the following. This past season, he averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.0 blocks in 56 appearances.

There’s no doubt that Davis is a force when he is lacing up to play. But the big man has endured a fair share of injuries leading to league-wide criticism regarding his fitness levels.

Now, after inking a three-year, $186 million contract with the Lakers, the 30-year-old will be tasked to lead the side to another championship — his second after winning one in 2020 with the Purple and Gold.

NBA Fans React To Anthony Davis’ Training Pictures

For most fans, this was good news to see Anthony Davis looking in good shape. Some believed that the MVP and DPOY season was loading for the big man.

To some, vengeance was incoming

The hype continued.

Another DPOY fan was in the house.

One of the fans hoped he would play 65+ games this season.

With last season’s roster kept intact, along with a few new additions in Gabe Vincent and Cam Reddish, the Lakers front office has put the right pieces alongside Davis and LeBron James.

Now, only time will tell if Davis can sustain himself for a grueling stretch and guide his team to a championship. If he can, expect this season to be a blockbuster one for LA.
