With a 38-30 record, the Los Angeles Lakers sit 7th in the West, right below the play-in cut-off line.

And while most Lakers fans see that fact as a bad thing, star big man Anthony Davis sees it as fun, citing that it’s the first real challenge he’s run into since his arrival in L.A

“It’s been fun, to be honest,” Davis said, via ESPN. “We were a great team last year, and this is the first time since I’ve been here that we ran into a challenge. This is a different challenge for us.”

Indeed, it has been a challenge for the Lakers. Thanks to inconsistent play, and various injuries, they face being eliminated from playoff contention completely if they lose the play-in tourney.

Even if they do make it, having to go through a mini-series before the playoffs might really hinder how much energy they have going forward, especially for 36-year-old LeBron James.

Needless to say, the Lakers are doing everything they can to avoid the play-in, and it seems it will take their best effort to pull it off.

As for Davis, it’s encouraging that he seems so upbeat about everything. Perhaps it’s a sign of good things to come…
