Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has always been known for being bold and confident with his game. In Uninterrupted’s latest docuseries on Netflix, we see Edwards in action during a game against the Celtics earlier this season.

“You seen Tatum trying to get me on the switch, locked his ass up 2 times,” said Edwards in the locker room after the game. “Tatum was talking shit, saying, ‘Yeah, I’m here,’ then I said, ‘I’m coming again.’ Talking ‘bout best player in the league, y’all trippin’.”

The clip is part of a brand new series on Netflix called the “Starting Five,” which features Edwards and other stars such as LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, Jimmy Butler, and Jayson Tatum. The show gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look into the lives of these players, both on and off the court.

The viral clip with Edwards was right after a game against the Celtics on November 6th. The Timberwolves won the match 114-109 and gave the Celtics their first loss of the season after a perfect 5-0 start. While Tatum had 32 points, it was Edwards who really shined with 38 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in 38 minutes.

Tatum tried his best to give it to the Timberwolves and he was looking to make a statement that night on his status as one of the best players in the game. Instead, Edwards took it as a challenge and once he came away victorious in the matchup, he used it as fuel to talk down on Tatum’s game and his standing in the NBA.

Of course, the footage was filmed before the Celtics‘ recent playoff run and now that Tatum is a champion, it’s easier for him to defend his position as one of the best players in the game. This season, with the same roster set to run it back in Boston, Tatum could be in for another masterpiece that will surely solidify his place on the modern NBA pantheon of greats.

The path to get there likely goes through Minnesota and after their rise to the West Finals last season, there is reason to believe that Anthony Edwards can lead them to places they’ve never been before.

The young star has the confidence of a proper superstar but he’s also got the game to back it up with career averages of 22.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game on 44.6% shooting. Last campaign was his true breakout moment for the Timberwolves and he’s ready to wreak havoc on the NBA.

Over the next few years, Edwards and Tatum will no doubt cross paths many times and their teams could even face off in the NBA Finals one day. Depending on who wins these matchups will set the basketball hierarchy for the foreseeable future and will determine their legacies in the modern NBA.

Clearly, Edwards sees Tatum as his ultimate challenger and he’s not out to make friends with the All-NBA forward. Just like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and other players with the “mamba mentality” Ant’s only drive is to win and he will do whatever it takes for him to end up on top.
