Guard Austin Reaves has been one of the key players for the Los Angeles Lakers during the playoffs, often being utilized as a ballhandler and shooter. There’s no doubt that without him the Lakers’ postseason run may have ended a lot sooner.

Superstar LeBron James has often praised Austin Reaves in the past, and it is clear that James is a fan of what Austin Reaves brings to the court. Though the two have a good relationship now, when he was 13 years old, Austin Reaves had made social media posts that mocked LeBron James. When speaking to Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports recently, Reaves revealed that he had cleared the air with LeBron James about those posts.

“I called Bron over and was like, ‘Look, I was s—-ing on you back in 2012. I was a Kobe fan,'” Reaves said. “[James] just laughed it off.”

People definitely change as they grow up, and it is clear that Austin Reaves was just a big Kobe Bryant fan who was trying to throw shade on one of his idol’s rivals. Now though, it is obvious that he respects LeBron James after being teammates with him.

In the playoffs, Austin Reaves has averaged 14.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 4.1 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers. His two-way play has been key for the team, and we’ll see if he can keep this up for the rest of the postseason.

There’s Mutual Desire Between Lakers And Austin Reaves To Sign New Deal This Offseason

Though Austin Reaves is going to be a free agent this offseason, it seems as though the Los Angeles Lakers are already trying to keep him. Previously, Rob Pelinka stated that there’s “mutual desire” between the team and Reaves to get a deal done.

“There’s a mutual desire,” Pelinka said. “Those are the type of guys you want in your program – that it’s team first, it’s sacrifice everything to win a game, competition above individual stats. That’s kind of what the DNA — especially for our young guys — that we wanted to represent. And he’s an example of that.”

Hopefully, the two parties can figure something out. The Lakers definitely need to retain Austin Reaves if they are to be a championship-level team next season, and we will see what ends up happening in the future.
