Russell Westbrook is the newest superstar to don the colors of the Los Angeles Lakers. Last week, the Lakers completed a trade that sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook joins LeBron James and Anthony Davis in LA to form the NBA’s latest big three behind Brooklyn’s own with Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. For Westbrook, this team will give him the opportunity to return and play in his hometown of Los Angeles. This big three will be the best opportunity for Westbrook to win an NBA championship since his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Westbrook will team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis for the first time in his career. James and Westbrook have been linked with each other in the past, but have never made any move to join forces. The same goes for Westbrook and Anthony Davis, who both struggled to be the singular stars for their franchises. And now, they both find themselves on the same team together as they become one of the favorites to win the NBA Championship next season.

Westbrook and Davis spent a lot of time during the 2010s being linked to several different teams and potential teammates while they were at OKC and New Orleans respectively. But funnily enough, they were linked to the Los Angeles Lakers years ago. In 2017, Bleacher Report first hinted that Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis were looking to team up together and join the Lakers. While the move has taken four years to materialize, Bleacher Report is the closest to making this prediction as early as four years ago.

While Davis and Westbrook probably didn’t plan their eventual union in this way, they will be more than happy with the results. Not only did the two get their wish of teaming with each other, but they also have LeBron James alongside them. The trio will be looking forward to making a run at the NBA championship next season.
