Breaking: Danny Ainge To Step Down As Celtics President of Basketball Operations

1 Min Read

After a tumultuous 2020/21 season, Danny Ainge is reportedly stepping down as the Boston Celtics president of basketball operations. The Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs on Tuesday night after a 123-109 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

This team started the season as a possible contender to win the Eastern Conference, but things fell apart. Following their elimination at the hands of the Nets, added to all the things they went through before, Ainge is now leaving the franchise.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Brad Stevens will have a ‘more prominent’ front-office role from now on. The organization will now look for a new head coach to replace Stevens.

The Celtics reached the Eastern Conference Finals twice in the past five years. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are the best players on this team, but their talents weren’t enough to lead the squad to the promised land.

This offseason will present a lot of questions for the C’s. They have plenty of things to figure out. Perhaps Ainge’s exit is the beginning of something new for the 17-time NBA champions.
