The Chris Paul saga has just started, and as the June 28th deadline approaches, more rumors will keep coming about the veteran point guard and his future in the league.
The Phoenix Suns reportedly told Paul that he will be waived, but the team wants to keep him on the roster even after cutting him. This is a risky move since he could join a different team, and Brian Windhorst reports that Los Angeles is a likely possibility for CP3.
“I think his future is in one of two places. One is Los Angeles. It could be the Lakers or the Clippers. Both teams potentially need a point guard, the point guards on both teams are free agents (D’Angelo Russell and Russell Westbrook),” the ESPN insider revealed on “Get Up!” on Thursday.
Another option for him will be coming back to the Suns, who would like to offer him a new deal and see how they can work things out moving forward.
“And it’s not out of the realm of possibility, I think it’s worth pointing out, that the Suns could bring him back,” Windhorst added. “It would be an NFL-style restructuring where his contract is paid out of its partial guarantee, and they bring him back for a lesser salary. So, I would bet on L.A. or Phoenix once we get into July.”

Knowing his history in the NBA, Paul is one of the best leaders you can have on a team, and adding him to one of the two Los Angelenos teams will make a big impact. Still, other teams have been mentioned among his potential landing spots, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, and even the New Orleans Pelicans.
This can be one of the biggest sagas of the summer, and everybody is trying to guess what will happen with Paul and his team.
Chris Haynes Believes The Lakers Make More Sense Than Clippers For CP3
Out of the two teams in Los Angeles, Chris Haynes believes that the Lakers would be a better landing spot for Paul than his former team, the Clippers.
“If you’re choosing between those two, obviously, it’s still pretty early right now,” said Haynes. “We haven’t got to that stage yet, but if I’m just looking at the rosters, I think that the Clippers are going to really consider re-signing Russell Westbrook, so it probably wouldn’t make much sense over there. The Lakers, they acquired D’Angelo Russel in the mid-season, that didn’t work out really well, so it’s unknown what they’re going to do with him. But I think if you’re minimizing it just to those two teams, it probably makes more sense with the Lakers.”
CP3 is reportedly keen to run it back with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in Phoenix, but if the team doesn’t offer him the best situation, he won’t miss suitors for his services. Kendrick Perkins says Paul could be the missing piece to keep LeBron James on the Lakers, so this move makes a lot of sense for them.
Paul averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 59 games this season for the Suns. They reached the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the West but were eliminated in the second round against the Denver Nuggets.
