The Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks enjoy a rivalry that’s unique in recent times. The Nets organization has built an excellent team over the past few seasons filled with superstars that have them as contenders even if it hasn’t worked out yet. The Knicks in the meanwhile, have consistently struggled in the last decade but enjoy a lot more support from the people of New York.

So it stands to reason that any game between the two franchises ends up being a testy affair with Knicks fans desperate to not see their cross-town rivals succeed. But heckling superstars in the NBA can be a risky business, just ask LeBron James, who looks out for haters in the crowd to raise his game to another level. And with a game between the Nets and the Knicks set to take place on Wednesday night, Bruce Brown has issued a warning along those lines to Knicks fans.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are both prolific scorers in their own right. Two of the most unstoppable offensive forces in the NBA, even one of them is good enough to completely play another team off the court on any given night. And Brown suggested as much in his press conference, saying that any heckling from Knicks fans might result in an explosion from not just one, but both of the Nets’ superstars.

“I don’t think they want to say too many bad things because there will be two 50-balls tomorrow if they start talking.”

Irving has spoken about the need to focus on their own game for the Nets, but it’s more than likely that he and Durant could go off to give the Nets a statement win heading into the play-in tournament. It promises to be an exciting game, even if the Knicks are only playing for pride, and any outcome is likely to create some juicy storylines after everything is said and done.
