Cam Newton Could Miss Entire 2019 Season After Shoulder Surgery

1 Min Read

The Carolina Panthers have announced that their quarterback Cam Newton, 29, underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his shoulder.

It seems like the injury was picked up against the Eagles in a comeback win during week 7, in which he attempted 39 passes.

When the former Auburn star listed on the team’s injury report for the first time on October 24, the Panthers were 4-2 at that point in the season and managed to find two more victories before Newton’s injury got worse. A 6-2 team should have an easy path to the playoffs, but the team went off a cliff after that point losing 5 straight games, that was when coach Ron Rivera decided to bench his QB1.

That seems like the right call considering Andrew Luck’s precedent who had to be subject to a similar type of procedure, which lead him to miss almost two full seasons.

Newton has passed for 28,469 yards, 182 TDs, and 107 interceptions during his 8-year career in the NFL, he won one MVP award in 2015.
