Charles Barkley During Game 2 Halftime: “Anthony Davis Doesn’t Have That Killer Mentality, Everybody’s Not Built Like That”

2 Min Read

Charles Barkley has been famous for ‘jinxing’ players and teams this postseason but Chuck doesn’t seem to be stopping predicting games and series results as well as how other players will fare under certain circumstances. The former NBA player-turned-analyst has had some of the worst takes in recent days and yesterday wasn’t the exception.

During Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, Chuck made the boldest of claims when he stated Anthony Davis was a great player with a lot of talent and skills but didn’t have a killer mentality necessary to take his game to the next level.

“Anthony Davis should be the best player in the world,” Barkley said. “But like, he doesn’t have that killer mentality, everybody is not built like this. … Anthony Davis is just a nice guy who’s a great player. Like, nobody can match up with him.”

Little did he know that Davis would show his killer mentality a couple of minutes later, making two big shots to give the Lakers the lead and the victory in the last seconds of the game. AD called game with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer over Nikola Jokic to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead in this series.

After the game, plenty of fans started to blast Barkley for making that statement, remembering him that AD was that dude.

AD said that was the biggest shot of his career and with all due reason. We’ve seen several buzzer-beaters game-winners in recent seasons and this one was as spectacular as the rest. This man is the future of the Lakers, even now, when LeBron doesn’t appear, he’s there to lead his team to the victory.

Davis does have that killer instinct and he proved it last night.
