The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors will battle it out for a spot in the Western Conference Finals and Charles Barkley is backing the Lakers to advance.

He has one major concern though, and that is that he cannot trust Anthony Davis.

“My faith in Anthony Davis is … I can’t trust that dude,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA. “He played great every other game. But can Anthony Davis dominate for four games? Because I think he has a huge advantage, I do. I don’t think they have anybody that can guard him, but he’s so inconsistent. When he plays like he is capable of, he is great. Can they get four great games out of Anthony Davis? That’s what this series is gonna come down to.”

(starts at 1:31 mark):

Davis was fabulous on defense against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, but he was inconsistent on offense. He had two games where he scored over 30 but had three in which he failed to even get to 20. If he can show some consistency on offense against the Warriors, then the Lakers would have a great chance of advancing.

In their four regular-season meetings, Davis averaged 22.8 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 2.0 BPG as the Lakers went 3-1. He should excel on defense yet again, but that offensive production will need to be a bit higher than that in this series.

An NBA Executive Thinks Anthony Davis Lacks Love For The Game Of Basketball

Davis has received a lot of criticism over the last couple of years for his failure to elevate his game following their title run in 2020. Whether it be for constantly getting injured, or not having a great motor, AD has been on the firing line quite often.

He has silenced a lot of his critics with his performances this season but one NBA executive believes Davis just does not have the love for the game. The individual added that he isn’t sure how much longer the Lakers can keep Davis engaged, and that combined with LeBron James getting up their age means he believes the Lakers’ window for contention is a short one.
