One of the sadder stories to emerge this NBA offseason is that of the behavior of Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges. The 24-year-old was on the verge of landing a huge contract for himself, there were reports that he would be given the max by Charlotte. They even made him a qualifying offer, despite there being apparent charges against him for domestic abuse.
Many expected that after the news broke about the things Miles had been accused of, the team would withdraw the qualifying offer they had made to him. But according to a report from Bleacher Report, they didn’t do anything of the sort, and Bridges remains a restricted free agent, which could allow him to get some more money.
“The Charlotte Hornets didn’t pull Miles Bridges’ qualifying offer prior to the July 13 deadline, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
“As a result, Bridges remains a restricted free agent and will earn $7.9 million for the 2022-23 NBA season if he signs the one-year tender.
“The 24-year-old was arrested June 29 in Los Angeles and charged with felony domestic violence.”
Miles Bridges posted a $130,000 bond to get out and is due in court on Wednesday, the report went on to state. The extent of the charges against him has now been revealed, with child abuse and felony domestic violence being the primary ones. The situation doesn’t look too good for Miles at the moment, although the legal process will have to take place properly before anything else can be said.
The entire saga has been an extremely sad one, and the hope is that the investigation will go through thoroughly and the victims can gain some semblance of normalcy in their lives again. This case has become another cautionary tale for young NBA stars to how quickly everything they have worked for can be threatened.
