Chet Holmgren, the rising star of the Oklahoma City Thunder and current front-runner for the NBA Rookie of the Year award, remains remarkably grounded despite leading the Rookie of the Year (ROY) rankings. In an interview, Holmgren candidly expressed that he hasn’t proven anything yet, emphasizing that he’s only played 31 games in the league.

“I haven’t proved s**t. I’ve only played 30 games. Still got a long way to go.”

Despite the buzz surrounding his exceptional performances, Holmgren maintains humility, acknowledging that he still has a long way to go in his rookie season. This level-headed approach is refreshing, considering the tendency for young talents to get caught up in the hype surrounding their early successes.

Holmgren’s attitude extends to his routine, emphasizing that he doesn’t believe he’s plateauing and credits his consistency to a structured regimen. He also appreciates the trust his head coach, Mark Daigneault, places in the team.

Despite Holmgren’s modesty, his on-court contributions have been outstanding. Averaging 17.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in his first 31 games, Holmgren has played a pivotal role in the Thunder’s impressive 22-9 record, placing them second in the competitive Western Conference.

Even though Holmgren may feel he hasn’t proven anything yet, his impact on the court and the Thunder’s success speaks volumes about his potential. As he continues to navigate his rookie season with maturity and skill, basketball enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing the continued growth of this promising young talent.

Chet Holmgren Will Win Rookie Of The Year Over Victor Wembanyama

Chet Holmgren is poised to clinch the Rookie of the Year award over Victor Wembanyama, defying the initial expectations that favored the highly hyped Wembanyama, selected as the number one pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Holmgren initially considered the underdog, has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, showcasing impressive stats that make a strong case for his Rookie of the Year candidacy. Averaging 17.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.7 blocks, Holmgren’s well-rounded contributions have played a crucial role in the success of the Oklahoma City Thunder. His shooting efficiency is also notable, boasting a 54.3% field goal percentage and a remarkable 40.0% from beyond the arc.

In contrast, Wembanyama’s statistics, while still impressive, fall slightly behind Holmgren. With averages of 18.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.1 blocks, Wembanyama’s shooting percentages, both from the field (44.2%) and three-point range (29.0%), are lower than Holmgren’s.

Team dynamics also play a pivotal role in the Rookie of the Year race. Holmgren operates within a talented lineup that includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, allowing him to contribute without the burden of being the main offensive option. This has translated into a defensive rating of 107.3 for Holmgren, showcasing his impact on both ends of the court.

Crucially, the Thunder’s success in the Western Conference is a significant factor in Holmgren’s favor. With a stellar record of 22-9, ranking them second in the West, Oklahoma City’s collective performance enhances Holmgren’s candidacy. In contrast, the Spurs find themselves at the bottom of the conference with a dismal record of 5-27.

While the long-term potential of Wembanyama remains exciting, in their rookie season, Chet Holmgren’s impactful contributions and his team’s success make him the frontrunner for the prestigious Rookie of the Year honor.
