Point guard Chris Paul is no longer the superstar that he was in his prime, but he is still a highly impactful player. This regular season, Chris Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG for the Phoenix Suns, and it is clear that his playmaking can still make him highly valuable.

Amidst recent reports that Chris Paul could be waived by the Phoenix Suns, the point guard has been linked with a number of teams. Previous reports suggested that the Clippers and Lakers are the favorites to get him if he doesn’t return to the Suns. Recently, Adrian Wojnarowski added two more teams to Paul’s list of potential destinations, noting that the New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors could try and sign him.

“If Chris Paul’s out there as a free agent this summer, look at the two teams in LA, the Clippers & Lakers; the Knicks in New York; the Golden State Warriors…”

There’s no doubt that both the Warriors and the Knicks could use Chris Paul. The Knicks could use an elite backup behind star Jalen Brunson, while the Warriors also need a steady guard presence on the bench.

The Suns Are Still Trying To Keep Chris Paul

Even though a lot of teams around the league would love to sign Chris Paul as a free agent, it seems as though he could still return to the Suns. One report suggested that the team is still finding a way to “financially” retain him.

“I’m told that the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul had a series of conversations today to start discussing his future in Phoenix, including the possibility that the team could use the waive-and-stretch provision on his contract prior to the June 28th date to guarantee his contract… Chris Paul wants to remain with the Suns and he wants to be back with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant… Right now, Phoenix would like to find a way to financially keep Chris Paul on this roster.”

It will be interesting to see where Chris Paul ends up in the future. His time with the Suns is not quite over, and perhaps the franchise will elect to retain him due to his fit with stars Kevin Durant and Chris Paul.
