• Chris Paul is looking forward to figuring out his role with the Warriors when training camp starts
• This is Paul’s sixth team in his career, so he’s used to adjusting to new systems
• Paul was acquired in June in a trade that sent Jordan Poole and picks to the Washington Wizards
The Warriors took a big risk when they acquired Chris Paul for Jordan Poole. Poole had a defined role as a sixth-man scorer, but the fit is more confusing with Paul, given his lack of pure scoring ability. Everyone’s excited to see what Paul’s role in Golden State is, including himself.
Paul revealed he’d figure out his role in Golden State over the course of training camp, but is not worried about adjusting.
“I won’t know that until we get to camp or until we get together. We ain’t had any team meetings. It’s crazy, and in honesty, it’s the same thing it’s always been. To hoop, leadership, all these years of playing, the game don’t change so much. I think I’m excited to sort of figure that out. I’m gonna go out and hoop.”

The Warriors are the sixth team that Paul will suit up for in his career. They also have the best championship resume out of anyone he’s played for, so the expectations will be high. As a player still itching for his first title, this is a golden opportunity for Paul to bring home a fifth title for the Warriors in this era.
What Will Chris Paul’s Role Be?
It’s hard to envision a situation where Paul will be a starter alongside Stephen Curry. A Paul-Curry backcourt will be extremely undersized and a huge defensive liability, given the age of both players. Keeping Klay Thompson as a starter for his size and versatility will be crucial, so it seems Paul will be their new sixth man.
Stylistically, Paul is very different compared to Jordan Poole who could sub in and just get buckets. Paul will be a second-unit orchestrator, which will help the Warriors’ bench with players like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. The Warriors bench was one of the biggest reasons for their failure last season, and Paul can fix that.
The former Suns’ guard averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 8.9 assists last season, so it’ll be best to maximize his playmaking abilities with the second unit.
