Love it or hate it, trade rumors are just a natural part of the NBA. Since the beginning, the media has been a catalyst for speculation regarding the future of players and teams around the league.
While these reports often come with varying degrees of legitimacy, it’s an inevitable part of the game we all love so much. That doesn’t mean people won’t call it out from time to time.
Speaking on ‘The Mike Missanelli Show,’ Sixers President Daryl Morey went on a rather interesting rant about all the fake trade rumors regarding his organization. A quick look at his statement will reveal all you need to know about why it’s going viral online.
“There’s really only one reliable reporter that I know about. We have nothing better to do, it’s frustrating for me and it’s frustrating for a lot of fans. We had a trade debated, it might even be this one, that was tweeted out by Ballsack Sports. I mean people were treating that like it was a real thing. I think that was yesterday or two days ago. So like, I am imploring people to not get too attached to Ballsack Sports tweets and treat them seriously. That’s what we’re dealing with.”

For those that don’t know, ‘Ballsack Sports’ is a parody account with over 15,000 followers on Twitter. Obviously, their tweets aren’t meant to be taken seriously, but it does reflect how ridiculous the NBA media scene can get.
Naturally, when fans heard the snippet from Morey, they couldn’t help but have a laugh on Twitter.
Seriously, though, the Ben Simmons situation has gotten out of control. Since the season began, countless reports and rumors have surfaced about his future in Philly, and it is clear (judging by Morey) that much of them aren’t true.
For the first time since the Simmons saga unfolded, Morey finally spoke out in public on the whole ordeal. And if he wants to stop the spread of false rumors, he might be better off talking on issues himself going forward.
