The San Antonio Spurs have had the fortune of being home to many NBA legends over the history of the league. When talking about such players, fans cannot forget the name of David Robinson by any means.

Apart from being a franchise legend, Robinson is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever play in the league. Evidently, Robinson was a mainstay in the NBA All-Star game. Similar was the case during the 2000 NBA All-Star game.

Robinson made the 2000 NBA All-Star game memorable during the introductions by leaving legendary head coach Phil Jackson hanging. Jackson was the coach of the Western Conference team during the 2000 NBA All-Star game.

Looking at the clip, it’s obvious that Robinson was pissed off at Jackson for some reason. But what was the reason? Well, let’s take a look at it.

Phil Jackson’s Comments Against The San Antonio Spurs

After completing his stint with the Chicago Bulls, Phil Jackson decided to make his return by becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Anyway, coming back to his comments about the 1999 San Antonio Spurs.

Jackson claimed that the San Antonio Spurs’ 1999 NBA Championship should have had an asterisk in front of it due to the lockout-shortened season.

Via Los Angeles Times:

“‘[The Spurs] needed an asterisk next to their title’ last year because of the lockout-shortened season.”

Jackson’s comments certainly played a role in Robinson not shaking hands with him at the 2000 NBA All-Star game. The Spurs and Lakers have a long rivalry, with the two sides taking jabs at each other from time to time.

It’s the rivalries like these that make the league interesting for NBA fans. Fans would watch a player and coach of opposing teams get into a heated scuffle or a simple disagreement than the two parties getting along every day of the week.
