Ja Morant is already in a lot of trouble with the NBA, and things could get worse for him as the lawsuit against him by the mother of a 17-year-old boy Morant allegedly beat up is still in court.
New details have emerged about this lawsuit, and one disturbing fact was revealed by Morant’s alleged former friend, Davonte Pack. According to Pack, the Memphis Grizzlies superstar does own a gun.
“Pack also said under oath Morant owns a Glock 40 gun but the gun used in his second Instagram Live incident was actually a lighter,” Mark Gianotto of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.
Pack also added that former Grizzlies player Mike Miller was present when the situation with the 17-year-old boy happened, and he took that opportunity to pitch his agent services to Morant.
Pack, who was suspended from every Memphis Grizzlies home game and unfollowed by Morant on social media, has been deposed, just like Mike Miller and former Memphis basketball player Trey Draper. Gianotto adds that Morant, his mother, his father and his sister will also need to be deposed in this case.
Not a single person who was present when the incident happened denies that Morant didn’t punch the boy, named Joshua Holloway, who is set to start his college career at Samford University.
Ja Morant’s Trial Will Start In April 2024
The trial for this case will start next year on a very unfortunate date for Morant. The next stage of this process will start in April, in the middle of the 2024 NBA playoffs.
Of course, this is a terrible date, as Morant will probably be with his team, battling it out on the way to the NBA Finals. This will be a huge distraction for the players if he doesn’t settle before things get more serious.
Morant has been involved in a series of controversies over the past year, and after getting suspended twice this year, things aren’t changing for him. This lawsuit can take a toll on his mind, his career, and even the Memphis Grizzlies.
Morant must make better decisions moving forward to fulfill his potential on and off the court. Otherwise, it’ll be hard for him to extend his stay in the association. Hopefully, the 25-game suspension can help him think things better and stop acting like he’s acted so far.
