Tim Duncan was never considered a trash talker of the same kind as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, or Gary Payton. He used different tactics to get under rivals’ skins, which worked really well for the San Antonio Spurs legend.
Kevin Garnett once explained that TD didn’t even insult rivals, he was just condescending and tried to ‘motivate’ other players with his words. He used short lines that could go a long way, which drove rivals crazy.
Now, DeMarcus Cousins has confirmed that Duncan was just like that, and even when he tried to go off on the legendary power forward, Duncan remained calm and just let his game do the talk before he came back and destroyed Boogie’s confidence.
DeMarcus Cousins Was Schooled By Tim Duncan After Cousins Tried To Talk Trash
During a recent appearance on ‘Outta Pocket,’ Cousins told a big story about Duncan’s tactics and how different his trash talk was, if it can be considered that. DeMarcus was a young guy who learned that you shouldn’t mess with TD simply because he was a quiet man.

“I don’t wanna hear no top 5 without Tim Duncan in it. I used to get so frustrated playing against Tim Duncan ’cause I could not figure him out.”
“I’m having a decent, successful night, so my young dumb a** decides to go talk sh*t to Timmy. I remember like, backpedaling down the court and Timmy looked up at me, he just looked at me, like kind of laughing to himself. This is the 4th quarter, this dude ran off 16 straight. 16 straight. And he never said anything to me, so we go back to that butt tap. He’s running his 16 straight and goes like, ‘good job, big fella’ And I’m like, this motherf***er. I left Timmy alone [after that].”
Tim Duncan was just like that. He never got to anybody’s face, just played the game and made sure that his rivals were crazy with his displays and short phrases. That’s how he became the greatest power forward of all time and one of the most underrated players in NBA history. TD was that great, and that’s why so many people don’t hesitate to praise him whenever they have the chance.
