Former Bulls superstar Derrick Rose is a fan-favorite in the NBA community. After capturing the MVP in 2011 (becoming the youngest in league history) and leading the Bulls to prosperity in his prime, he endured some nasty injuries that he was able to overcome over years of effort.
Today, however, Rose made headlines for a different reason: his wedding photos. This weekend, the former MVP married his longtime girlfriend, Alaina Anderson, in a wholesome life moment. The best part of all is who Rose picked to officiate the event: his former teammate, and former Defensive Player of the Year, Joakim Noah.

At first, some fans were surprised to see Noah officiating the wedding but it’s actually not shocking at all. While they were teammates, Rose and Noah were very close and formed a tight bond that survived long after they were placed in different locker rooms.
In fact, after what the Bulls accomplished in 2008-2013, it’s very likely that the entire Bulls roster from that era got an invite to the big day, including Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng, and Jimmy Butler among other names.
Derrick Rose Is Living His Best Life Despite Injury-Riddled Career
Rose’s career took a tragic turn in 2012 when he suffered an ACL tear in the NBA playoffs. The Bulls finished first in the East that season and were poised to give LeBron and the Heat a run for their money in the postseason. Sadly, after Derrick’s injury that summer, he was never the same, and the Bulls never recovered.
But Rose never let his injuries define his career, and he continued to fight to keep his basketball dream alive. Today, while Rose is not the player he once was, it’s fair to say he’s thriving in life as a newly married man with a brand new look on life.
“The reality is I’m 33, turning 34 tomorrow,” said the Bulls legend before his birthday this year. “That guy that I used to be, even though I didn’t show it, had an ego. I been killed that ego a long time ago. So yeah I’m a totally different person, which I should be. I’m way more mature and still trying to challenge myself to be vocal and I think it is rubbing off on the young guys.”
It remains to be seen how the end plays out for Rose, but you have to commend his perseverance to keep his morale up after so many career setbacks.
Remembering The 2011 Chicago Bulls
The full invite list has not been made available to the public, but seeing Noah and Rose together has fans reminiscing about the past. Noah, while not a star, was once one of the NBA’s top defenders. The 2x All-Star was the man in the middle for the Bulls and opened up the floor for guys like Rose, Butler, and three-point sharpshooter Kyle Korver.
Impressively, the Bulls finished first in the East over the “big three” Miami Heat and the experienced Boston Celtics. While they’d go on to lose in the first round that year, that Bulls team made a very strong impression on the fans and their legacy continues to be remembered today.
Sadly, the Bulls have yet to match that level of success since the departure of their MVP but it’s good to know that the guys who made that 2011 squad so special are still close today.
