The Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic starred in one of the craziest moments of the young 2022-23 NBA season and the entire year, as two of their players went at it, and started a big brawl between both teams.
After Moritz Wagner of the Orlando Magic shoved Killian Hayes to the Detroit Pistons’ bench, tempers flared and the latter didn’t hesitate to punch Wagner in the neck, seemingly knocking him out. That altercation opened the door for something bigger, but fortunately, it didn’t go further than that.
It was indeed a concerning moment as many people remembered that the Pistons arena has witnessed serious events that are still pretty big to this day. Knowing the history, the host team’s announcer made a good decision that might have saved a lot of people.
Detroit Pistons Announcer Made A Smart Decision Amid An On-Court Fight
After Hayes broke havoc, everybody ran to the Pistons’ bench to try to calm things down. As soon as this happened, the Pistons announcer told the crowd to remain calm and not try to do anything that could hurt them or the players.

“Do not move. Stay in your seats”, he calmly announced.

“The moment you move, you’re going to jail,” he then stated.
This was a great way to handle this situation, as fans can often do too much during games and cause more damage. Fortunately, the situation didn’t become what it was in 2004 between the Pistons and the Indiana Pacers. That went down as the worst NBA fight of all time, and the league has tried to prevent those situations.
Sometimes things get out of control in the heat of the game, but this was something completely avoidable. Fortunately, Wagner was safe after the punch, and Hayes too. Of course, the referees made the right decisions after things calmed down, just like the announcer when the situation got worse.
